With the officials sources remaining tight-lipped over reported arrest of 20 persons suspected of spying for Russia, few details started to emerged in the Georgian media sources.

--Forwarded Message Attachment-- Thank you for your e-mail today. I hope you understand that the decision to restructure the Georgian Company was taken for commercial reasons only. It is always unfortunate when this happens as we realise the impact this has on individuals. The financial performance of the operation in Georgia has been poor for some time and we felt that urgent action was required to safeguard the jobs of the people that remain in the operation. However, let me assure you that the positions of the staff remaining are secure and that we do not foresee any future redundancies based our predictions of costs and sales in the operation. I would also like to stress that we will ensure that there is no discrimination of individuals based on race, colour or creed and that all individuals will be treated equally on all aspects of performance. The staff from Azerbaijan have been asked to temporarily assist during this difficult time and to help you cope with any issues that may arise. This is a temporary measure as they are required back in their own territory. With respect to your points on compliance related issues, we will not tolerate any instances of falsification of results or indeed any issues which bring our company into disrepute. If you wish to bring any evidence of such issues of this nature to my attention I shall ensue that a full audit takes place. Lastly, I understand that actions such as these are unsettling for all staff but rest assured that we shall do all in our power to protect those that remain and to ensure that the business is healthy and viable for the future. I know Iain will also ensure that all of this occurs without prejudice to any individual.

----- Original Message ----- From: "Iain Clark CBE-West Thurrock" <iain.clark@intertek.com> To: "Vladimir CBE-Batumi" Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2006 17:41 Subject: FW: URGENT Vova, I am disappointed that you and a number of your colleges in Georgia feel that you have to resort to sending such messages as this to our senior management. It shows a lack of trust in me as your Regional Manager and a lack of understanding of the fact that such actions are discussed and agreed at VP level with Raymond Pirie and others before they are actioned.
I am well aware that the operations in Georgia are good and that they have received praise from various clients, as you are well aware I was present during the recent TCO audit. The Georgian operation is an important part of the "full route" business from Kazakhstan, through Azerbaijan to the Black Sea coast and will continue to operate and hopefully grow. Therefore there will be the need for good people like yourselves, so I therefore hope that you will not make any decisions to The changes that have been made are to refocus the operation and to adjust the costs so that the operations can be profitable. The comments in the message are based on miss-guided information and are in accurate as you are not aware of the cost base differential that has accompanied the changes that have been made. Also Elchin Bagirov's appointment is temporary until a suitable permanent replacement can be identified and/or trained. If this ultimate replacement manager is Georgian, then so much the better. In closing I ask that you continue to perform your jobs as well as you have in the past and work with the new management to ensure that we all have a successful future. Please feel free to show this message to any of your colleagues as you feel necessary and if anyone wants to discuss further then please contact me.
